Regard • Awards Border scoops the Un Certain Regard Award

CANNES 2018: Victory for the film
by Swedish-Iranian director Ali Abbasi. Girl scoops the Award for Best
Performance, while Sofia, Donbass and The Dead and the Others are also
victorious.

Abbasi’s genre-bending Nordic puzzler “Border” won the
top prize in the Cannes Film Festival’s Un
Certain Regard competition.
The Jury Prize for Best Performance went to Victor Polster for his performance in Girl
by fellow Belgian Lukas Dhont.
Produced by the Belgian company Minuet, and co-produced by Frakas Productions
and the Dutch outfit Topkapi, this debut feature film is being sold by The Match
Factory.
The Best Director Award went to Ukrainian director Sergei
Loznitsa for Donbass.
Produced by Ma.Ja.De Filmproduktions-GmbH (Germany), Arthouse Traffic (Ukraine),
JBA Production (France), Graniet Film (the Netherlands), Wild at Art (the
Netherlands), Atoms & Void (the Netherlands) and Digital Cube
Post-Production (UK), Donbass is being sold internationally by Pyramide
International.
A Special Jury Prize also went to The Dead and
the Others directed by the duo composed of Portuguese director
João Salaviza and Brazilian director
Renée Nader Messora. This
documentary was produced by Portuguese company Karõ Filmes along with Brazilian
outfits Entrefilmes and Material Bruto. Sales are being handled by
Luxbox.
